Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) : Originally founded by General Motors (GM) in 1922, it was a pioneer in the field of diesel locomotive engines.
Current ownership: In 2010, EMD was acquired by Caterpillar's Progress Rail and is now the core brand of Caterpillar's rail business.
Production scope: Focusing on diesel engines for railway locomotives, ships and stationary power generation, EMD 645 series is one of its classic products.
Main application field
Rail transport: Used in diesel locomotives in the United States and worldwide, such as EMD's GP series (GP38, GP40) and SD series (SD40, SD45). Common in freight locomotives, shunting locomotives and some passenger vehicles.
Ship power: as the main power or auxiliary power of tugboats, inland cargo ships, ferries.
Generator set: Used in mines, remote areas or emergency backup power system.
Market distribution
Main use areas: North America, South America, Australia, South Africa and some Asian countries (such as India).
