BMW iX models use recycled materials and renewable energy to promote sustainable development

2021-03-19

According to foreign media reports, each BMW iX will use approximately 59.9 kilograms of recycled plastic.

BMW has given electric cars a grille for the first time and is developing two new models. The German automaker has embarked on an electric car journey with its i-brand models and hopes to continue to develop in this field. The i4 model will make its debut in the near future, but the more important model is the iX crossover.

The latest tidbits focus on iX's sustainable manufacturing process. BMW said that the entry-level iX starts at about 85,000 U.S. dollars and is expected to announce the official US pricing in early 2022. The company will begin accepting pre-orders in June.

Part of the reason for the global electric vehicle revolution is that people are committed to reducing the environmental hazards of vehicles and their manufacturing processes. BMW regards sustainability as a key part of its plan and relies on green energy such as recyclable materials, solar and hydropower, renewable resources, and new manufacturing technologies to reduce its carbon footprint. The company will even purchase raw materials such as cobalt on its own and then provide them to suppliers to ensure the transparency of the material extraction and processing process.

Users can further feel environmental awareness from the internal environment of iX. BMW collects leaves from olive trees all over Europe every year, and will use olive leaf extracts from them to process iX’s leather interiors, while using synthetic yarns made from recycled nylon waste to make crossover carpets and carpet. Each iX model uses approximately 59.9 kilograms of recycled plastic. The company is committed to achieving digitization and electrification in a sustainable way, and iX is currently its pinnacle in this regard.
