How To Judge The Oil Burning Caused By The Valve Oil Seal Or The Piston Ring?

2021-11-09

"Burning engine oil" refers to the fact that engine oil enters the combustion chamber of the engine and participates in the combustion together with the mixture, resulting in rapid engine oil loss and oil leakage. The most common problems that often cause engine "burning oil" are valve oil seals and piston rings. So what if we judge whether it is the piston ring problem or the valve oil seal problem? Let's take a look together.
First of all, let's first understand the cause of burning oil

·Valve seal

The valve oil seal is not pressed against;

Large clearance between valve guide and cylinder head;

Wear of valve oil seal, excessive wear of valve stem and valve guide;

The aging of the valve oil seal causes the oil to flow along the valve stem to the combustion chamber, causing the oil to burn.
·Piston ring

The piston ring is installed upside down;

The piston ring is not staggered as required;

The outer diameter of the piston ring is too small and the clearance between the cylinder diameter is large;

In the process of maintenance and use, carelessly clean the piston ring, piston and cylinder wear;

The piston ring has poor wear resistance and premature wear, causing the oil to enter the combustion chamber and burn the oil;

Pistons and cylinder barrels are worn. The gap between the piston diameter and the cylinder barrel exceeds the specified value.
·Other reasons

The corrugated ring is not installed in place, causing groove marks on the engine cylinder;

Scratch the cylinder wall accidentally during assembly;

Engine high temperature; (do not check the lack of oil, lack of water or lack of water)

The lubrication effect of engine oil is poor;

Does not warm up the car, causing wear and tear;

The gasoline pump enters the combustion chamber.
What are the ways to judge the burning of engine oil?

There are three types of car oil burning (respectively, burning engine oil in cold car, burning engine oil when accelerating and burning engine oil at any time)

·Judgment method of valve oil seal burning oil

1) Ways to add and release the throttle;

2) Serious carbon deposits and blockage of the three-way catalyst;

3) If the exhaust is thicker blue smoke, it means that the vehicle has already burned engine oil. If the blue smoke disappears after the car is hot, this type of engine oil is a cool engine oil. (This is because the valve oil seal is aging or damaged, resulting in poor sealing effect, and the oil enters the cylinder from the valve).

·Judgment Method of Piston Ring Burning Oil

1.After a hot car, whether it is a rapid acceleration or an idling process, as long as the speed rises rapidly, blue smoke will be emitted from the exhaust pipe. This type of rapid acceleration burns oil. (The rapid acceleration of oil burning is mainly due to the poor sealing effect between the inner wall of the cylinder and the piston ring, which causes the oil to enter the combustion chamber directly from the crankcase);

2.When measuring cylinder pressure, if there is a problem with the piston ring, the amount of wear can be judged by the cylinder pressure data (if it is not very serious, or a cylinder problem, by adding a repair agent, it should be automatically repaired after 1500 kilometers).
·Judging methods for other reasons

Once started, blue smoke can be seen. At this time, the engine oil is already very serious, and there may even be a safety hazard. This type of oil is burned at any time. (The engine is severely worn, resulting in lax sealing, which provides favorable conditions for burning oil. At this time, it must be repaired urgently to avoid more serious failures and damages)
