Performance of dual-fuel four-stroke engine scuffing

2023-01-16

Diesel engine scuffing phenomenon refers to the phenomenon that the piston assembly of the diesel engine and the working surface of the cylinder interact violently (generating dry friction), resulting in excessive wear, roughening, scratches, abrasions, cracks or seizures on the working surface.

To a lesser extent, the cylinder liner and piston assembly will be damaged. In severe cases, the cylinder will be stuck and the piston connecting rod will be broken, the machine body will be damaged, causing a vicious machine damage accident, and it will also endanger the personal safety of the on-site operators.

The occurrence of cylinder scuffing is the same as other failures of diesel engines, and there will be obvious symptoms before a serious accident occurs.

The specific phenomenon of diesel engine cylinder failure will have the following characteristics:

(1) The running sound is abnormal, and there is a "beep" or "beep".

(2) The speed of the machine drops and even stops automatically.

(3) When the fault is mild, measure the pressure of the crank box, and you will find that the pressure of the crank box will rise significantly. In severe cases, the explosion-proof door of the crank box will open, and smoke will rush out of the crank box or catch fire.

(4) Observe that the exhaust gas temperature of the damaged cylinder, the temperature of the cooling water of the body and the temperature of the lubricating oil will all increase significantly.

(5) During maintenance, check the dismantled cylinder and piston, and you can find that there are blue or dark red areas on the working surface of the cylinder liner, piston ring, and piston, accompanied by longitudinal pull marks; the cylinder liner, piston ring, and even The piston skirt will experience abnormal wear, with a high amount and rate of wear, well above normal.
