Piston ring clearance inspection points

 The piston ring reciprocates with the piston in the cylinder, which causes the outer working surface of the piston ring to wear, the radial thickness of the ring decreases, and the gap between the working openings of the piston ring increases; The lower end surface is worn, the axial height of the ring decreases, and the gap between the ring and the ring groove, that is, the plane gap increases. Usually, the normal wear rate of the piston ring is within 0.1-0.5mm/1000h when the diesel engine is running normally, and the life of the piston ring is generally 8000-10000h. The normally worn piston ring wears evenly along the circumferential direction and is still fully attached to the cylinder wall, so the normally worn piston ring still has a sealing effect. But in fact, the working surface of the outer circle of the piston ring is mostly unevenly worn.
 
Before measuring the gap between piston ring openings, ① take the piston out of the cylinder, remove the piston ring and clean the piston ring and cylinder liner. ② Put the piston rings on the piston ring in the least worn part of the lower part of the cylinder liner or the non-weared part of the upper part of the cylinder liner according to the order of the piston rings on the piston, and keep the piston rings in a horizontal position.
③ Use a feeler gauge to measure the opening clearance of each piston ring in turn. ④ Compare the measured opening gap value with the specification or standard. When the limit clearance value is exceeded, it means that the outer surface of the piston ring has been excessively worn and should be replaced with a new one. It is generally required that the piston ring opening clearance value is greater than or equal to the assembly clearance and less than the limit clearance. Note that if the opening gap is too small, it cannot be repaired by filing the piston ring opening.
