What is the difference between a diesel engine and a gasoline engine

2021-04-19

1. When the diesel engine is in the air, it is not the combustible mixture that enters the cylinder, but air. Diesel engines use high-pressure fuel pumps to inject diesel into the cylinders through fuel injectors; while gasoline engines use carburetors to mix gasoline and air into combustible mixtures, which are sucked into the cylinders by pistons during intake.
2. Diesel engines are compression ignition and belong to compression ignition internal combustion engines; gasoline engines are ignited by electric sparks and belong to ignited internal combustion engines.
3. The compression ratio of diesel engines is large, while the compression ratio of gasoline engines is small.
4. Because of the different compression ratios, diesel engine crankshafts and casings have to withstand much greater explosive pressure than similar parts of gasoline engines. This is also the reason why diesel engines are bulky and bulky.
5. Diesel engine mixture formation time is shorter than gasoline engine mixture formation time.
6. The structure of the combustion chamber of diesel engine and gasoline engine is different.
7. Diesel engines are more difficult to start than gasoline engines. Diesel engines have a variety of starting methods such as small gasoline engine start, high-power starter start, air start, etc.; gasoline engines generally start with a starter.
8. Diesel engines are mostly equipped with preheating devices; gasoline engines do not.
9. The speed of diesel engine is low, while that of gasoline engine is high.
10. Under the same power state, the diesel engine has a large volume and the gasoline engine has a small volume.
11. The fuel supply system is different. Diesel engines are high-pressure fuel supply systems, while gasoline engines are carburetor fuel supply systems and electronic injection fuel supply systems.
12. The purpose is different. Small cars and small portable equipment (small generator sets, lawn mowers, sprayers, etc.) are mainly gasoline engines; heavy-duty vehicles, special vehicles, construction machinery, generator sets, etc. are mainly diesel engines.
